Why I Teach Improv

I started writing about teaching improv a few weeks ago and was collecting research to prove its benefit until I realized that's not what it's all about. Yes, there is research out there demonstrating the benefits which I am happy to share. What it is about is seeing the creativity and joy coming from older adults in their seventies and eighties who are far from reserved and demure. When someone hears I teach improv to older adults the usual response is to say how sweet it is. Sweetness is far from my experience. One of my students s a sister who is as off color as they come. The others are as entertaining and interesting as any improv group I have been around. I teach this group once a week for to hours, but am looking to add more classes to my scheduled. Death and Life Positivity

     I called this blog Life, Death, and Everything in Between because we can't have life without death and one is not more meaningful than the other. People spend so much energy and time trying to avoid the inevitable rather than embracing it. We are all going to age and die, but that doesn't need to be a bad thing. The fact our time on Earth is terminal makes it so much more glorious. If you were going to have your favorite meal prepared exactly to your liking whenever you liked it until the end of time, how much would you truly enjoy it?
